Couples counseling is a way for a couple to explore the many stages and both internal and external influences that can shift or change the relationship. Relationships are a lively process that can transform as life events, personal changes, and many other challenges crop up over time.
Couples face challenges such as death, financial issues, intimacy issues, parenting problems, family conflicts, and many other possible stressors. Couples counseling gives the couple a safe space to explore these stressors, and learn how to move through them together.
The therapist in couples counseling does not act like a referee, but instead as a facilitator to help the process of examining the patterns couples often fall into. From there, the therapist helps to foster a shift in patterns, to allow the couple to grow in harmony. Often, the therapist will give the couple homework between sessions. This homework will provide the couple with activities and exercises that will reinforce what they are learning in the therapy sessions. At Roswell Counseling, the couples counseling is always about working towards a harmonious balance, no matter where the couple is at in their relationship.
