Emily is an Associate Professional Counselor and graduate from Brenau University's Masters of Science Clinical Counseling Psychology program. She is currently pursuing her Registered Play Therapist credential. Emily has extensive experience working with a variety of clients and diagnoses from her work in private practice, schools, and the US Air Force.
Emily strongly believes that each individual is unique and full of potential. As such, providing a supportive and accepting environment is key to her therapeutic practice. Her role as a therapist is not to "fix" or "change" anyone but to support, encourage, and offer alternative perspectives. Emily enjoys helping clients develop a variety of tools, empowering them to face challenges, and developing a sense of self-capability. Emily specializes in Play Therapy and has additional, specialized training in expressive and art-based therapy, sand tray, and working with children on the autism spectrum. She comes from a strong CBT background, which is an approach that empowers individuals to influence their own wellbeing by capturing the power of their own thoughts. Emily also draws from theories such as Positive Psychology and Solution-Focused Therapy. These theories support the concept that individuals have the capability to reach their own potential with the right encouragement.
Emily strives for a client-centered, holistic approach, which creates an atmosphere for clients to develop skills and grow in a safe and supportive environment. She enjoys working with both the client and their family, when appropriate, to facilitate positive change and understanding. Emily often uses creative and expressive interventions to both create an engaging atmosphere as well as promote emotional expression, self-discovery, and self-regulation.
In her free time, Emily loves to play and hike with her dog, Penny. She also enjoys kickboxing, yoga, and binge-watching shows.
